Freemasonry and women

This week, I wanted to discuss something that both comes up fairly often on this blog, and is relevant in my own life right now: Masonry, marriage, and divorce. Unfortunately, neither of these websites are affiliated with regular masculine Masonry, and so everything on them must be taken with a grain of salt. Many of the questions couples have about the topic are scattered across the internet, I would like to bring them all together. Who is a Masonic wife? Although the world has changed since then, Masonry has not always changed with it. For instance, unless you are legally married, a woman who has no other Masonic relationships cannot join the Order of the Eastern Star.

Like the Square and the Compasses, the level and the Plum are nearly always united in our ritual. It is the equal right of each man to the full use and development of such power that he has, whatever it may be, unhindered by injustice or oppression. There upon the Level, the symbol of equality, rich and poor, high and low, prince and plain citizen of diverse creed, parties, interests and occupations — meet in mutual respect and real regard, forgetting all difference of rank and station and united for the highest good of all.

As the Level teaches unity in diversity and equality in difference, so the Plum is a symbol of rectitude, integrity of life and that uprightness of moral character which makes a good and just man. The Square and compasses remind us how to think, act and live as fair and decent human beings, while the level and the plum rule explains how we behave to others, by living on the level and in an upright manner.

Freemasonry also known as Masonry or The Craft, is an ancient and noble fraternity. The beginnings of which are lost to history. Although Masonry is believed to be the oldest surviving fraternal organization in the world, the exact date of its founding is uncertain. Freemasonry can, however, be easily traced to sixteenth century Scotland although the first Masonic governing body was not founded until in London. By , the Constitutions of the Freemasons were assembled and published, and although that document explicitly refers to an alleged meeting of masons in England assembled by Prince Edwin, the son of the tenth-century Saxon king Athelstan, there is no supporting evidence to this claim.

The Grand Lodge of Kansas is the governing body of Freemasonry in Kansas, formed March 17, , nearly five years before Kansas statehood. In Kansas, a prospective member must be 18 years of age, a Kansas resident for 6 months and profess a belief in a Supreme Being. With these qualifications met, we welcome men of every country, religion, race, age, income, education, and opinion.

Kansas Masons, through the Kansas Masonic Foundation, have supported many worthwhile charitable endeavors over the years. The outside world has long been obsessed with uncovering the truth behind Freemason traditions and other Masonic secrets, but the organization remains largely shrouded in mystery. What is Freemasonry? Since then, Freemasons have diversified their interests, and are now essentially community organizations that focus on fraternity, charity, and good will towards mankind, like a more secretive version of a Rotary Club.

Dedicated conspiracy theorists continue to disagree. The basic qualifications that one must have in order to join a Freemason Lodge at the entry level seem simple, but are actually quite exclusionary. For one, with the exception of a few unofficial chapters, only men are welcome to become Freemasons. Anyone wishing to join must be sponsored by two established Freemasons, although inheritance is possible.

Finally, everyone wanting to join must attest that they believe in one singular Supreme Power – a monotheistic god, but not necessarily the Christian one. In other words, only men who believe in God can join, and even then they need connections. Despite the qualifying question for Masonic membership, discussion of personal religion is actually forbidden within Freemason Lodges. Lodges are often accused of being the location of secretive political deal-making, but the most basic rules of Freemasonry outlaw any such conversation.

The fraternity of the Freemasons is based on equality and equity within the organization. A wide variety of people have joined the order, including a great number of presidents and other important and influential individuals.

In our fast-paced world, where pressures on time become greater and greater, there are all too-few times when fathers can share quality time with their sons. You probably have memories of those moments of sharing when the pace of living was a bit slower. Perhaps your father taught you to drive, or hunt, or fish.

Hi, I’m the girlfriend of a Freemason. I’ve done a lot of research on the topic and have been having a lot of trouble. Writers go through periods when the muse is simply silent, and the words do not come. Last year, during the last weeks leading up to the presidential election, I began to feel my voice diminish until it finally fell silent. Only in the last few days has it returned, and so here I am. As Masons we share many traits but principally the compulsion to become better men.

What makes our fraternity so great is that this simple idea expresses itself through so many different personalities. Each personality presents unique challenges to the desire to improve, like different stones present different challenges to the mason as they are worked into perfect ashlars. During these fallow months I, being an introvert, have explored the landscape of my own personality as if instinctively knowing that I needed to reconnect with something deeply personal before my muse would return.

That instinct was, or rather is, correct. During the furor of the election I felt repulsed by the political conversation. It was angry, base, and worst, for me, of lacking depth. One of the things I found, for myself, is that I am only interested in depth, truth, and meaning. Science can be cold and inhuman without spirit, and religion can be divisive and cruel with out compassion. I crave depth and multiple dimensions in my truths.

The first grand lodge, established to govern Freemasonry in England and Wales, was formed in , during a meeting at a pub in the City of London called the Goose and Gridiron. At that time there were four lodges in the city. Few societies in the modern civilized arouse so much interest and wariness as the Freemasons. Partly because of their elaborate ceremonies but mainly because of all the secrecy associated with the association, Freemasons are sometimes misunderstood even in these liberal times. So if you have been dating a guy and have found him sporting a Masonic ring, here are a few things you can go through before throwing a ruckus.

He will need space of his own The Freemasons are a close-knit group who closely follow certain rituals and ceremonies known only to the members. This has given them a reputation for being a secret society and involved in suspicious activities if not actively working out conspiracies across the world. The truth is in fact far from such half-baked notions. On its website, the United Grand Lodge of England, the oldest and most respected Lodge in the world and the cradle of modern Freemasonry, denies being a secret society at all.

And yet if your boyfriend is a Freemason, you might as well come around to the fact that certain aspects of his life will be restricted to you. Your boyfriend may leave for meetings where he will not be able to take you along. This is because the meetings inside a Masonic Lodge and the rituals and ceremonies are usually closed to non-members, which includes you.
